I can’t help looking down

L’appel du vide

I just want to jump

Just like any morning daybreak

Sunbeams dripping through the trees

Cheerful birdsong calls all awake

Open window beckons me

Gazing out on splendor below

Feeling hale in heart and head

Eyes drop to the windswept pavement

The void is calling me again

L’appel du vide

I can’t help looking down at the distant ground

And the horizon all around

I know that I can’t fly

and I don’t want to die

But I can’t deny

I just want to jump

Garbage disposal

Fingers linger

Subway tracks ask me to dance

Wheel wants to steer into oncoming traffic

Outlet is magnet to steel in hand

Rapids rush to greet me under bridge

I stare like a bear meant to swat a hive

Shining knife edge could brighten my ribcage

Low tide cliffside begs me to dive

L’appel du vide

I can’t help looking down at the distant ground

And the horizon all around

I know that I can’t fly

and I don’t want to die

But I can’t deny

I just want to jump

L’appel du vide

I just want to jump

L’appel du vide

I just want to jump

I just want to jump
